  • The School Advisory Committee (SAC)

    The School Advisory Committee (SAC) and Installation Advisory Committee (IAC) serve as forums in which questions or concerns raised by parents or teachers are discussed. The SAC includes parents and teachers who are elected to represent the community at large.

    The function of the SAC is to make recommendations and advise the principal on

    1. school policies, student activities, and administrative procedures;
    2. instructional programs and educational resources within the school;
    3. allocation of resources within the school to achieve educational goals;
    4. administrative and logistical support services provided by the installation commander and applicable service commands;
    5. policies and standards of the installation command and military services related to the above.
    Neither the SAC nor the IAC addresses matters pertaining to personnel policies or practices, compensation of school staff, grievances of school employees, or internal management of DoDDS or their programs. If you have any questions or concerns about the school's curriculum or environment, give one of the SAC representatives a call! A list of current representatives is available at the school's main office or by contacting the principal.

    While many people have heard of SAC, they have no idea what it is that SAC does for the school or even why SAC exists, if we have a PTSA. The School Advisory Committee is your organization. Its purpose is to enhance educational programs, the support services, and quality of life for our children who are students in the DoD Dependent School at SHAPE American MS/HS. We work in concert with the PTSA.

    A School Advisory Committee is required in all DoDDS schools, by Congressional mandate and established by Public Law, to advise the principal on school matters and the military unit commander on logistical support matters.

    The committee includes parents, teachers, the school principal, and the school liaison officer, who represents the local military commander.

    As a representative to the school and DoDDS administration from the community, our goals focus on the continuous improvement of all aspects of the school educational and support programs. The SAC has open and honest communication with the school administration and the U.S. support structure All parents, school staff, and local military community personnel are invited to attend SAC metings and are asked to share your suggestions for school improvement and to participate on various subcommittees. The SHAPE Middle/High SAC meetings are normally held on the first Monday of each month. Minutes will be published on this site and in the monthly parent newsletter.

    If you are concerned about the future of the school, and want to volunteer a small portion of your time doing something extremely worthwhile and rewarding, why not consider running for SAC? You can make a difference!
