Commander Anderson received his commission from the Auburn University NROTC program in 1996, graduating with a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. Following CH-46 training, Commander Anderson was assigned to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron FIVE (HC-5) in 1998. During this tour he completed deployments to the Arabian Gulf while embarked in USNS SAN JOSE (T-AFS-7), USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA-3) and the USS ESSEX (LHD-2).

Commander Anderson transferred to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron THREE (HC-3) as a flight instructor in 2002. While at HC-3, he served as the USN Search and Rescue (SAR) Model Manager, standardizing and evaluating the AIRPAC rotor wing community SAR procedures and performing SAR interoperability training with the Ukrainian and Georgian Navies. While assigned to HC-3 he earned his Masters of Business Degree in Global Science and Leadership from the University of San Diego.

In February 2004, Commander Anderson transferred to the USS NASHVILLE (LPD-13) in Norfolk, VA where he served as the Air Boss and Ship’s Safety Officer. While assigned he earned his Officer of the Deck (OOD) qualification and completed deployments to the Mediterranean and Black Seas. At the completion of this tour, he attended The United States Army Command and General Staff College, Leavenworth, Kansas where he earned his Joint Planner qualification.

In 2008, Commander Anderson reported to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWENTY TWO (HSC-22) in Norfolk, VA. He served as the Safety Officer and Maintenance Officer and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Officer-in-Charge of Detachment THREE while embarked in USNS SUPPLY (T-AOE-6). In 2010, Commander Anderson reported to NATO Allied Command Operations, Belgium as the NATO Communications and Information Systems Service Agency Branch Chief, deploying for six months to International Security Assistance Force Headquarters, Kabul, Afghanistan as the Chief Projects for Joint Communications Division. While assigned to the NATO Allied Command Operations he was selected for advancement to O-5 and also screened for Operational Command.

Commander Anderson has accumulated nearly 2000 flight hours. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and various campaign and service medals.
