Dermatology Residency

There are two Dermatology Residency programs located in the Dallas/Fort Worth and South Texas areas. Both are affiliated with the University of North Texas Health Science Center and the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. The TCOM/DFW and TCOM/STX Dermatology Residency Programs are designed to provide trainees with the educational and practical experience that will enable them to deliver superior specialized care to patients with diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. The course of instruction will include the basic sciences, plus training in research and teaching.

The primary teaching strategy will employ problem-based learning. This type of learner-centered, case-based curriculum encourages critical thinking, problem solving, and self-direction. The acquisition of core competencies in osteopathic graduate medical education unique to dermatology will be required of all residents. Following a required Traditional Internship (PGY1), the three-year program will be varied, broad, progressive and systematic. The program will prepare residents to provide dermatologic care to pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

Based at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, the dermatology residency provides advanced educational and clinical facilities. Residents have full use of all library facilities including online access to the reserve collection of electronic journals. Access will also be available to residents while at community clinic sites. Clinical experiences obtained at both private community and academic health center facilities enable residents to treat a diverse population of patients. Residents have ready access to consultants from all clinical specialties where needed.

Application for residency can be found through the AAMC's Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
