DENTON (UNT), Texas – The University of North Texas’ clean air efforts have been recognized as the best by The North Texas Commission in its “Working for Clean Air Awards” competition. 

In its eighth year, the awards program recognizes organizations in the region that demonstrate outstanding efforts to improve local air quality. More than 30 organizations representing more than 135,000 employees in the North Texas region applied for the award this year.

"This award is a testament to UNT's efforts in ensuring that the local community has access to clean air,” said Nicole Cocco, outreach coordinator for UNT’s Office of Sustainability. “By ensuring that UNT is reaching its sustainability goals, we’re also ensuring that the people of North Texas have clean air, potable water and a livable community for generations to come. This award is just proof that great things don't go unnoticed, and UNT is in the forefront of sustainable operations, education and curriculum." 

Established in 1971, the North Texas Commission is a regional non-profit comprised of businesses, cities, counties, chambers of commerce, economic development groups and higher education institutions in the North Texas region. The North Texas Commission aims to improve the economy, infrastructure and lifestyle of North Texas by marketing the region, promoting collaboration and advocating on critical issues.
