The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) recently announced the publication of practice guidelines for the use of videoconferencing for the delivery of mental health services. These telemental guidelines are intended to:
- Inform on the standard of care
- Promote the development and practice of uniform, effective, safe and sustainable telemental health practices
- Serve as both an operational reference and an educational tool
Dr. Jay H. Shore, co-author of the ATA practice guidelines, joins us for Telehealth Practice Guidelines: Videoconferencing and the Delivery of Mental Health Services. He will discuss the process used for developing the guidelines. Dr. Shore will review guidelines in the context of the current state of telemedicine and discuss future directions for the field.
Jay H. Shore, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Centers for American Indian and Alaska Native Health, University of Colorado, Denver. He leads the Native Domain for the Western Region of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Veterans Rural Health Resource Center. Dr. Shore has been a member of the American Telemedicine Association since 2000. He currently serves on the ATA Board of Directors, and is the vice-chair of the Tele-mental Health Special Interest Group.

The Ministry Team: Challenges, Coping Strategies and Resource Support
Date/Time: 9 December 2009, 1300-1500 EST
Purpose: To discuss the psychological challenges faced by Military Chaplains, Chaplain Assistants and Religious Program Specialists and describe various coping strategies to reduce these psychological stressors and prevent compassion fatigue. Resources will also be identified as reference points for the intended audience who include Military Chaplains, Chaplain Assistants, Religious Program Specialists, health care providers and subject matter experts.

Domestic Violence: Perspectives and Resources

Purpose: To discuss the impact of domestic violence on military and veteran families; to disseminate information about civilian and military resources and programs targeting domestic violence, and to understand the perspective of line leadership on its impact on warriors and families. Purpose: Discussed how technology can improve access to and utilization of quality behavioral health care for beneficiaries in rural areas. We also discussed challenges to implementing these solutions (e.g., licensure, bandwidth, policy). Reintegration Experiences: The View From The States

Purpose: Discussed State-level promising reintegration programs targeting reserve and national guard populations. Attention was paid to the Alabama Reintegration action plan as well as programs from both Kansas and Massachusetts.
