BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency closed its disaster recovery centers in Barre and St. Johnsbury on Monday, Aug. 29th in order to address the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. These centers will not reopen any time soon. They were originally scheduled to close permanently on Thursday, Sept. 1, but because of the recent flooding in the state of Vermont from Hurricane Irene, FEMA officials are assessing the need to redirect resources and personnel within the state.
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The danger of additional flooding in the wake of Hurricane Irene has led to a one-day closure of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's disaster recovery centers in Barre and St. Johnsbury on Monday, Aug. 29. The Centers will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30 and remain open through Thursday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. when they will close permanently. The centers were opened to provide face-to-face resources for residents of Caledonia and Washington counties after a presidential declaration for flooding on May 26 -- 27, 2011.
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Vermonters in Caledonia and Washington counties have less than two weeks to apply for federal disaster aid for the flooding which occurred May 26th to May 27th. Sept. 6th is the deadline to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for housing assistance and grants and with U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for low-interest loans.
