Women's Rugby
The Women's Rugby Team is a club sport that competes against other collegiate rugby teams in the New England area. Players don’t have to know how to play rugby to join the team: they just must be willing to work hard, get dirty, and be dedicated. The game is not for the faint of heart. It involves non-stop running, hitting, and tackling and the team prides itself on a strenuous training program to develop endurance, strength and confidence. The team is a close knit group of women who have excelled on and off the field.

In 2006, the team finished third at the Beast of the East Tournament and in the fall of 2007 scored a total of 253 points, allowed 33 points and finished second in New England Division IV, its first year in the league. In 2007, the club became a member of the New England Rugby Football Union (Division 4). In 2008, the Coast Guard women didn’t stop—the team finished fourth in Division IV with a 4-1 record. After the 2008 season, Coast Guard was asked to move up to Division III in the New England Rugby Football Union (NERFU).

In 2009, Coast Guard completed an undefeated regular season with a 5-0 record. CGA placed first in the NERFU Div. III Southern Conference and earned a #4 seed in the championship cup tournament. The team moved on to win  the quarter final playoff game against Smith 65-12. Coast Guard ended the season in a loss against MIT in the semi-final playoff game (score was 26-35) and a final record of 6-1. The Coast Guard Academy Women’s Rugby team has come a long way in the past few years and is only getting stronger. With a great coaching staff and dedicated women, the team will find success on and off the field.
