U.S. Coast Guard Overview

The Commandant U.S. Coast Guard designates a senior Flag Officer as Information Sharing Executive to oversee the following responsibilities:

As a DHS operating agency:

  • Assess and report internal compliance with Federal annual Information Sharing and Safeguarding performance measures, requirements and tasks and ensure enterprise-wide transparency of these actions;
  • Represent the Coast Guard on the DHS Information Sharing and Safeguarding Governance Board, the Homeland Security Intelligence Committee, the Law Enforcement Shared Mission Community and in other DHS executive and collaborative forums;
  • Implement DHS-mandated Information Sharing and Safeguarding policies, procedures and enterprise-wide training; and,
  • Implement the Information Sharing Environment (ISE) within the Coast Guard, establishing Coast Guard interagency Information Sharing policy, processes and procedures.

NEW ORLEANS – Wildlife teams recovered three oiled birds, Monday and were out on the water searching for any other impacted wildlife. 

Coast Guard and State of Louisiana response workers continued assessments of the areas affected by Hurricane Isaac, searching for signs of pollution or impacted wildlife. 

So far, Coast Guard and Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality assessment teams have investigated about 90 separate reports of pollution throughout the impacted areas. Facility owners are taking steps to clean up the majority of these. Six sites...

NEW ORLEANS – One dead oiled brown pelican, one dead oiled clapper rail, one dead oiled common moorhen, and three live oiled wildlife were recovered near Myrtle Grove, Sunday. 

Affected wildlife are taken to a rehabilitation center in Belle Chaisse, La. Necropsies will be performed to determine the cause of death. 

Pollution assessments continued at multiple sites impacted by Hurricane Isaac and a wildlife recovery team deployed to Myrtle Grove to recover wildlife and to look for signs of other impacted animals.

NEW ORLEANS – One dead juvenile pelican, 10 oiled dead nurtria and two live oiled pelicans were located in the marshes in the vicinity of Myrtle Grove, Sunday. 

Wildlife Response Services is en route and will attempt to recover the live pelicans, collect the dead pelican and nutria, and look for any other impacted wildlife. Necropsies will be performed to determine the cause of death.
