2013 Open Enrollment is October 8 - October 31, 2012

Monday, Oct. 8, marks the beginning of Open Enrollment, which continues through Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 9 p.m. During Open Enrollment, you can enroll, re-enroll, or make changes to your medical and dental coverage, as well as sign up for Flexible Spending Accounts. All changes will be effective beginning January 1, 2013.

  • For salaried employees, there are significant changes in the medical plans for 2013.

  • For bargaining unit employees, there are no changes in medical or dental plans for 2013.

Look for your Enrollment Guide to arrive in the mail, and take the time to carefully review your benefit options this year, as well as your dependents and beneficiaries. If you have questions, visit the Benefits booth at the Benefits and Wellness Fair on Thursday, Oct. 18, or stop by the Benefits Office located in Building 4500N, Room 162A, from 8:30am to 4:00 pm, M-F during the Open Enrollment period. Health Care

As announced in January, we are changing our medical benefit plans for all salaried UT-Battelle employees effective January 1, 2013.  This includes exempt, non-exempt, full-time, part-time and casual staff. These same changes will go into effect for bargaining unit staff the following year, on January 1, 2014.

The current Point of Service (POS) plan is changing to a new Open Access Plus plan (OAP). The current Open Access plan is being replaced by a new Consumer Driven Health Plan called Choice Fund that includes a Health Savings Account (HSA). You may choose one of these new options, or waive coverage, during the open enrollment period for 2013 which is October 8-31, 2012. It's important to note that if you make no election during Open Enrollment, you will be defaulted into the Open Access Plus plan.

In addition to these medical plan changes, coverage has been enhanced to include an expanded nation-wide network of providers, bariatric surgery and coverage for domestic partners under both the medical and dental plans.

ORNL Benefits has created many opportunities for you and your family to learn about these new plans. (MORE)

Wellness

Whether you're maintaining good health or working to improve your health, it's never too late to take advantage of the wellness activities available to you through the company.

The Mayo Clinic Health Assessment campaign will begin on September 17 and runs through October 31. You also have until October 31 to complete the Reward Points program. Your participation comes with a double reward. Not only do you maximize your health, you also save money on your medical premiums. Salaried employees can save $30 each month on their medical premiums by completing both programs by October 31, 2012. (MORE)

Retirement Savings

We are resuming the company match effective January 1, 2013, for all salaried UT-Battelle employees and effective April 1, 2013, for all bargaining unit employees. In addition, we are making changes to the 401(k) Savings Plan investment line up. You will have three ways to invest: Select a target date fund designed to become more conservative as you approach retirement; Create your own investment strategy from core investment options; or, Invest in a brokerage account that provides a wide range of mutual funds. You can choose just one of these options or any combination of all three. Plus, the Stable Value Fund will remain and any monies you currently have invested in the Stable Value Fund will remain in this option. (MORE)
