Analytical Chemistry Division

Welcome

The Analytical Chemistry Division, part of NIST's Material Measurement Laboratory, serves as the Nation's reference laboratory for chemical measurements and standards to enhance U.S. industry's productivity and competitiveness, assure equity in trade, and provide quality assurance for chemical measurements used for assessing and improving public health, safety, and the environment. The Analytical Chemistry Division is responsible for development and characterization of Standard Reference Materials (SRMs) to enhance chemical measurement comparability within the U.S. and to provide a basis for measurement comparability with other nations. SRMs are provided to support clinical, food, environmental, fuel, metal alloy, cement, and advanced materials analyses.  Research activities are geared toward improvement of measurement capabilities to address U.S. industry and government agencies' requirements for new measurement services and reference materials.  Current research focus areas include the development of measurements and standards for determination of protein-based health markers, for chemical characterization of nanomaterials, and for climate change science.
