Call for Abstracts



      Notice: The Users Conference and GIS Workshop have concluded. Thank you for your participation.

The first users conference for The National Map and eighth biennial U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geographic Information Science (GIS) Workshop to be held May 10 - 13, 2011, in Lakewood, Colorado. This Users Conference and Workshop collaboration will bring together scientists, managers, and data users who, through presentations, posters, seminars, workshops, and informal gatherings, will share accomplishments and progress a wide variety of geospatial topics. The goal is to enhance communication among the Department of the Interior (DOI) bureaus as well as to tap into geospatial communities from other Federal agencies, State and local governments, researchers, industry, academia and other organizations.

The focus of the Users Conference will be on the role of The National Map in supporting science initiatives, emergency response, land and wildlife management, and other activities. All presentations at the Users Conference should include use or innovations related to a The National Map data theme or application.

The focus of the USGS GIS Workshop will be learning specific techniques and concepts for using GIS in support of science. Presentations should be educational and not marketing.

Please consider participating. Submit an abstract that addresses one of the Conference or Workshop session themes:

Reviewed abstracts are required for oral presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on sessions, but are optional for posters. The Conference committee stipulates that abstracts must be reviewed in accordance with USGS Fundamental Science Practices (FSP) guidance available at: http://www.usgs.gov/fsp.

Conference abstracts will be published online prior to the Conference as a U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report. A link will be provided before the Conference.
