Location:
2nd Deck, Charette Building 2

Availability of Services:
The clinic is open 0800-1630. We have a corpsman and a nurse on call 24/7.

Scope of Care:
We have to have physician back-up; preferably a surgeon depending on the case. ER physicians cannot be the the overseeing physician as they do not have the availability needed for covering patient complications. The wound care nurses' scope of practice includes assessment and prescribing a plan of care for patients with complex acute and chronic wounds, new and established ostomies, fistulas, imparied skin due to incontinence or artificial devices. A large part of our practice involves prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers. We manage all of the specialty rental beds and chairs for the facility; including bariatric, kinetic, and pressure relief beds.

Wound and Ostomy Service

The Wound and Ostomy Service is a nurse-managed service. We are a referral-only service.

NMCP Buildings 1,2 and 3

We provide care for in- and out-patients to prevent/treat pressure ulcers, acute and chronic wounds, new and established ostomies, fistulas, and impaired skin integrity secondary to incontinence or aritificial devices. We manage all of the specialty rental beds in the hospital. Also we manage all of the wound VAC pumps in the facility, however the OR has additional VAC dressings and supplies. Central Supply has VAC canisters.

World Class Care... Anytime, Anywhere

Referral Requested:
Required.

Referral Instructions:
Enter an electronic consult to "Wound Clinic." All patients must have an electronic referral, including inpatients. It is Tricare policy that you do a provider to provider contact on referrals needed on "today," "ASAP," "within 72 hours," and "stat" referrals. ER physicians must first refer the patient to the appropriate on-call surgical team for us to have appropriate back-up. Network providers should refer to surgery first, so a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan can be established in collaboration with our team.

Additional Information:
Remember we are a nurse-managed clinic and do not have a full-time physician within our service.
