DTIC's Scientific and Technical Resources

 

The scope of DTIC's scientific and technical (S&T) collection covers all areas of defense research, including biological and medical science, environmental pollution and control, and behavioral and social science. The collection also contains Department of Defense (DoD) directives and instructions, budget information, conference and symposia proceedings, patents and patent applications, and other topics of interest to the defense community.

 

DTIC offers three Web sites for access to its resources and services: DTIC Online; DTIC Online Access Controlled; and DTIC Online Classified. Entrance to each site is based on an individual's registration level and provides the respective access and information coverage.

 

DTIC Online (Public) does not require registration and offers easy access to publicly accessible information from defense and federal Web sites.

 

DTIC Online Access Controlled requires registration and is a focal point for information on research and engineering activities within DoD. It is sponsored by Director, Defense Research and Engineering (DDR&E) and maintained by DTIC. Resources found here include:

DTIC Online Classified requires additional registration and is available on the SIPRNET (Secret Internet Protocol Router Network). It is free and accessible to individuals granted access to the SIPRNET. DTIC Online Classified includes the following:

 

  • Access to DTIC's more than 2 million technical reports (TR) citations, including all classified titles, abstracts and subject terms
  • Free online full-text versions of unclassified, unlimited; unclassified, limited; and classified reports in DTIC's Technical Report Collection
  • The full collection of over 300,000 Research Summaries, including classified summaries not available in DTIC Online Access Controlled
  • The Independent Research & Development (IR&D) Summaries collection
  • Links to other access-controlled and classified DoD resources
  • Militarily Critical Technologies List
  • DoD Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) Standards

 

To register for DTIC Online Classified, you must have a SIPRNet account and would need to log on to the SIPRNet and then go to https://reg.dtic.smil.mil/SDTICreg.
