Introduction to: "Web 2.0 "
ADM002106
Fall 2008

The term Web 2.0 has been applied to a collection of innovations developed for the World Wide Web that serve to enhance cooperation, interactivity and peer-to-peer networking. Wikis, blogs, chat rooms, mash-ups, virtual worlds, podcasting, and rss feeds are only some of the applications that are revolutionizing the operational capabilities of organizations. The uses include, but are not limited to, collaborative projects, training, simulation and modeling. They do, however, present a significant burden on the infrastructure and security of online systems. In addition, the peer-to-peer capabilities pose a challenge to the traditional military hierarchies. It is essential, nevertheless, that these technologies be embraced in order to maintain the technological edge of the United States.
