Military officers, federal civilians, and defense industry civilians who have taken DAU courses who are seeking to improve their chances for promotion, both within the armed services and in the civilian world, can now transfer UMUC approved credits from a program at the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) to resident and online certificate, undergraduate, and graduate degree programs offered by the University of Maryland University College (UMUC).
The strategic partnership designates UMUC degrees and certificates that will help meet mandatory Acquisition Corps education and standards in several of the 13 acquisition career fields. UMUC is committed to allow the transfer of DAU credits that are certified by the American Council of Education (ACE) and that fit into UMUC degree programs, and that meet UMUC’s transfer rules.
In addition to DAU courses, each DAU student also brings a unique set of combined learning experiences. These learning experiences, which include regionally accredited 2- and 4-year institutions, military training and experience, and credit examination, can also be used in a program of study provided that it fits the transfer rules and fits into a specific program. At the undergraduate level UMUC’s policy is that half of the credits needed for a certificate and 90 credits, or 75 percent of the degree plan, can be transferred in credits. At the graduate level UMUC’s policy is to generally accept up to six credits for transfer from sources such as DAU, provided that they correspond to courses in the program of study.
