How to Make the Most of Your Thrift Store Shopping

All of my friends know me well, so when I call and say, "Hey, you want to go out tomorrow?" they know that equates to giddily perusing though several thrift stores, hitting yard sales, or picking up stuff from Freecycle. Some decline unless I include lunch; others are as game as I am. ...more

4 Places to Find Fabulous Plus-Size Jeans on a Budget

After spending some four hours in a department store with my mom today, I realized that there are some great plus-sized (size 12+) jean choices out there ... if you can afford them, that is. What about us girls who want great fit, but can't afford over $100 a pair? Jeans are a big deal for me—I'm 5'8, curvy, and I range between a size 14 and an 18, depending on the brand. (There seems to be little continuity in sizing. That's enough to frustrate me most days.)...more

How to Make Your Own Maternity Jeans

Almost two years ago, I broke the zipper on a pair of my jeans (I've never done this before or since, happily), and I thought, "WHAT could you possibly do with a pair of jeans with a broken zipper?" And then I remembered that I'd made myself a pair of maternity jeans once upon a time, and this pair might be a chance for me to do it again, now that I knew a little better what I was doing. So I stashed them away for many many months until I was pregnant again....more

Edward Scissorhands Transformation Tutorial with Special Guest Poster!!!!!!

Halloween is on FRIDAY!!!! I am so excited!! I absolutely love Halloween. During this time of year my Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest etc. are all flooded with pictures of spooky transformations. I have never actually tried myself to do a full makeup transformation. I seem to stick to classic forms of makeup. It is completely out of my comfort zone. So maybe I will try, I am working on stepping out of my comfort zones. That is a whole post on it's very own. Ha Ha....more

A Closet Purge and a New Plan... #thejoulespurge

I have way too many clothes.Actually, I should amend that sentence… I have way too many clothes that I don’t wear.Even though, I do a bit of a clothing purge when I switch my closet over for each season (twice a year) somehow I have a big ol’ pile of clothes that I keep packing up, unpacking, never wearing and then packing up again.I’m so over it....more

From Country Chic to City Sleek: Painted Plaid Dress

I had the honor of doing a guest post this past summer for Alison from Get Your Pretty On where I took an eyelet top from country chic to city sleek. It was a fun concept to work with so I thought I'd give it another whirl with this super versatile Anthropologie painted plaid dress. I have no shame when it comes to this dress. I fell in love with this dress the minute I lay my eyes on it but, as always, I could not bring myself to purchase it at full price. I stalked it as if my life depended on it. When Anthropologie had a sale, I totally pounced on it and I'm glad I did because I snagged one of the last ones left at my local store....more
