Michael Sneed: Why did outgoing Cook County President Todd Stroger order new furniture for his executive offices in the County Building if he is leaving the office in seven months? Sneed is told new desks, chairs and cabinets arrived for Stroger and his executive staff at his fifth floor office two weeks ago. Why is Stroger hiring for positions ranging from secretary to department head if the new hires will likely be shown the door when his replacement is elected?

Census Bureau using products not made in U.S.
Michael Sneed: The U.S. Census Bureau has committed a catastrophic no-no. It isn't using products made in the U.S.A. in its promotional community campaigns. Sneed is told the Census Bureau, which is attempting to count a population heavily beset with unemployment, is distributing T-shirts, shirts and hats manufactured OUTSIDE the United States for use in its community programs. "It's outrageous," said Ald. Ed Burke.
