The Economic Development Department assists the citizens of Saginaw to shape the city's future, based on a shared community vision. The department is responsible for developing and implementing the Comprehensive Plan, assisting in zoning cases, Board of Adjustment cases, plats, development proposals, site plans, and all related requests, administering zoning regulations and changes, developing zoning ordinances, platting subdivisions, and coordinating historic preservation.

The Economic Development Director administrates the areas of Economic and Industrial Development, Planning and Zoning, Board of Adjustment, and Flood Plain Administration.   This includes zoning cases, plats, development proposals, site plans, tax abatements, and reinvestment zones.  Assistance to property owners, contractors, engineers, and developers is also provided.
