Our research work unit is part of the Forest Values, Uses and Policies Science Area in the Southern Research Station. We are headquarted in Pineville, LA, with research teams also based in Blacksburg, VA, and Athens, GA.
Mission Statement: To define and apply chemistry, materials science, forest management, and engineering principles to the characterization and utilization of southern forest resources for maximum societal benefits with minimal environmental consequences.

- Wood Quality
- Characterization of Wood and Woody Biomass
- Improvement and Reuse of Solid Wood Products
- Utilization of Southern Resources in Bio-based Products
