A former Layton physician accused of illegally distributing painkillers has struck a plea deal with federal prosecutors.

Paul Ray Taylor, 64, pleaded guilty during an appearance in U.S. District Court on Friday to a single count of distribution of oxycodone. According to a statement by the defendant, Taylor admitted he "provided oxycodone prescriptions to various individuals with whom I did not have a legitimate doctor-patient relationship or with whom I did not conduct appropriate medical examinations."

Taylor was taken into custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 1.
