Career Development Initiative Mission and Objectives

Career development is the lifelong process of managing work, leisure, learning and transitions in order to move toward one's preferred future. The objective of quality career development programs, services and resources is to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities to become self reliant in order to help them manage their career and bring personal meaning and satisfaction to themselves and their community.

The existing career development system in Manitoba is multi-faceted and flexible. Services are delivered through a wide variety of approaches in elementary and secondary schools, adult learning centres, Manitoba Friendship Centres, universities and colleges, government, public employment services and community-based services and through the private sector.

The purpose of the Manitoba Career Development Initiative is to facilitate and guide the development and maintenance of effective and sustainable programs, services and resources that Manitobans can access to meet their career development needs over their learning and working lives.

The Manitoba Career Development Initiative provides a framework to better align government and system priorities with the needs of individual Manitoban's and the ever changing labour market. The Framework supports seamless continuity, coherence and integration of career development within and across sectors related to learning and work. Emphasis is on linking career development to life long learning as individuals progressively develop and refine their skill sets through continuous learning throughout their lives.
