A Plan to Prevent and Control Diabetes in Texas

The Texas Diabetes Council is legislatively mandated to develop and implement a state plan for diabetes treatment, education and training. Diabetes and Disparity is the theme for the 2008-09 plan, focusing on disparities in diabetes prevalence and mortality, and the inequities in diabetes education and care that contribute to a growing burden of diabetes in Texas.

A feature article from the National Diabetes Education Program entitled “Hispanics/Latinos: Help Control a Growing Epidemic by Managing the ABCs of Diabetes” emphasizes the importance of diabetes self-management.
