UNT Takes Third At Inaugural Maridoe

CARROLLTON, Texas — The Maridoe Golf Club once again showed its lack of mercy on the field in the third and final round of the inaugural Maridoe Intercollegiate on UNT's home course Tuesday.

When the dust settled, the Mean Green finished in third place in a tough field after besting their Sunday performance by three strokes to finish at 881, which was 41 shots over par on the unforgiving course.

SMU, ranked No. 21 in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America poll, won the event at 21-over par, while No. 6 Texas A&M finished second, six shots ahead of North Texas. The field featured five teams in the poll's top 35.

"The Maridoe Intercollegiate was a great learning experience for our team," UNT coach Brad Stracke said. "The golf course is truly special. I felt like the guys played hard and put themselves in position with five to play, but SMU finished the demanding 14 through 18 stretch strong. We will learn and get better from this experience."

After a rough second round as the Round 1 co-leader, senior Thomas Rosenmueller rebounded on Monday with a 1-over-par 71 to finish tied for 11th place at 9-over for the tournament with teammate and fellow senior Jordan Sanders. Sophomore Viktor Forslund shot a final-round 73 to finish tied for 20th at 14-over par.

Freshman Lenny Bergsson finished tied for 24th at 15-over, and redshirt sophomore Kristof Ulenaers finished tied for 36th at 17-over par.
