North Texas Travels To Jamaica

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — The North Texas men's basketball team is traveling to Jamaica to play in the 2019 Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic. UNT will face Rhode Island on Friday for a scheduled 3:30 CT tip-off. The Mean Green (2-3) will then face No. 15 Utah State on Sunday at 5:30 CT. Both games, which will be played at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, will be aired on the CBS Sports Network and the Mean Green Sports Network.

CBS Sports Network can be found on DirecTV channel 221, Dish Network channel 158, Verizon Fios 594 and AT&T channel 643. Bill Roth providing play-by-play and Steve Wolf serving as the analyst.

Hank Dickenson will have the call on the Mean Green Sports Network, which can be found on 88.1 FM and 95.3 FM.

INTERNATIONAL GAMES
This weekends' games will be the first time North Texas has played outside of the the United States in the regular season. 

OFFENSE COMES ALIVE
UNT's offense came alive in its 80-60 win over North Carolina A&T on Tuesday. North Texas made a season-high 11 3-pointers and had a season-low 13 turnovers.

MO BUCKETS
The Mean Green's Umoja Gibson (last season's leading scorer) scored 20 points versus North Carolina A&T on Tuesday. It was the first time this year a UNT player scored 20+ points.

BLOCK PARTY
UNT had eight blocks versus North Carolina A&T. That's the most blocks UNT has had in a single-game under Grant McCasland.

SAME STARTING 5
North Texas has had the same starting lineup in each of its first five games (Hamlet, Gibson, Reese, Geu and Z. Simmons). Hamlet, Reese and Geu are newcomers.

PICKING POCKETS
Redshirt Senior DJ Draper has a team-leading seven steals through the team's first five games. He had 13 steals all of last year in 32 games. He's on pace to finish the regular season with 40 steals.

FIVE OR MORE
Since the start of last season, North Texas is 10-1 when Zachary Simmons makes five or more field goals in a game.
They are 1-0 this season. He went 6-for-9 versus Oklahoma Christian in the season opening 79-40 win.

17 FAST POINTS
On Tuesday versus North Carolina A&T, North Texas redshirt sophomore guard Umoja Gibson scored 17 straight points for the Mean Green in the second half over a three-minute and 51-second span. From 5-minute and 37-second mark in the second half until the 1 minute and 46-sec- ond mark, Gibson went 3-for-3 from deep, made two layups and went 4-for-4 at the free throw line.

YET TO MISS
The Mean Green's Abdul Mohamed is 4-for-4 from the field to start his NCAA D1 college career. The JUCO transfer is also 3-for-3 from deep.

OUTREBOUNDING
The Mean Green have yet to be outrebounded this year.
