UNT Signs In-State Guard To Letter Of Intent

DENTON — The North Texas Mean Green men's basketball head coach Grant McCasland announced Wednesday the signing of Houston standout prep guard Rubin Jones to a national letter of intent for the class of 2020.

"Rubin is an extremely versatile guard on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor," McCasland said. "His basketball IQ, ability to score and also make plays for others is what has us excited about his future here at North Texas. He comes from a great family and is an outstanding young man that will fit in well with our program."

Jones, a three-star recruit by ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports.com, is a 6-foot-4 guard from Jack Yates High School in Houston. Jones led the Lions to the Texas state semifinals last season as a junior. The Lions went 12-0 in district and 23-5 overall.

Early into his senior season, Jones has already had multiple 20-plus-point scoring games.

He's a top 30 recruit in the state of Texas by most major recruiting outlets, a top 5 Houston recruit and a top 100 guard in the nation as well.

"I chose UNT because they showed me that they love me," Jones said. "They were one of the first teams to offer me and they stayed consistent with recruiting me through the whole process. I am extremely excited because so many schools overlooked me and I can't wait to show everyone what they missed."

Jones chose UNT over Nicholls State, Tulsa and Conference USA opponents Louisiana Tech and UTEP.
