AOC Partners with D.C. High School to Share Expertise:
The Architect of the Capitol (AOC) is developing a partnership with Phelps Architecture, Construction, and Engineering High School in Northeast DC, so our staff can share its expertise with the students. The students there are studying to enter career fields that are related to the AOC’s work.
As part of this initiative, the Capitol Buildings’ shops hosted field trips for the freshman class on May 13, 14, and 21. The students visited the CVC Control Room for a discussion about monitoring lighting, HVAC, elevators, and fire alarms; and visited the Decorative Painting, Sheet Metal, and Carpentry Shops.

 Reagan Statue Donated to National Statuary Hall Collection
A bronze statue of President Ronald Wilson Reagan, donated by the State of California to the National Statuary Hall Collection, was unveiled in the United States Capitol Rotunda on June 3, 2009.
 Sojourner Truth Bust Placed
On April 28, 2009, a bust of abolitionist and women’s-rights advocate Sojourner Truth was dedicated in Emancipation Hall.
 Commemorating Abraham Lincoln The bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth on February 12, 1809, is being celebrated throughout the year 2009. Numerous works of art and objects in the Capitol and congressional collections are related to the sixteenth president.
