US Capitol Visitor Center Opens to the PublicU.S. Capitol Visitor Center Opens to the Public        

Speaker Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Reid, Senate Minority Leader McConnell, House Minority Leader Boehner, and Acting Architect of the Capitol Stephen Ayers commemorated its opening on December 2, 2008, with a ceremony in Emancipation Hall.  + View Photo Slideshow  + View Opening Ceremony (embedded video). Visitors to the U.S. Capitol can also now find expanded information about visiting the Capitol at the new Capitol Visitor Center web site at: http://www.visitthecapitol.gov.   Visit the web site now to learn about booking tours, amenities at the Visitor Center, the Exhibition Hall and tips for visiting the Capitol.

In addition to such major efforts as the construction of the Capitol Visitor Center, the Architect of the Capitol is involved in hundreds of other projects throughout the Capitol complex.

It is provided to succinctly inform members of the public about work they may witness and want to know more about. There are literally hundreds of projects under way at any given time, but most are not particularly visible or disruptive.
