This section of How To provides information on how to read and interpret the Demographic Tables produced by the Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance System (PedNSS) and the Pregnancy Nutrition Surveillance System (PNSS).

Because demographic characteristics of a population are associated with the prevalence of some health indicators, it is important to be familiar with these characteristics and indicators for your population. Understanding the demographic characteristics of your population can help with the following kinds of analysis:

  • Comparison of the prevalence of health indicators from one geographic area to another or from one year to the next
  • Examination of changes in the prevalence of health indicators over time
