Maintaining a Certification / Continuing Education

To ensure the ongoing quality of DOE projects, each certified Federal project director (FPD) is required to engage in continuing education (CE) activities regardless of their level of certification.  DOE O 361.1B mandates that each person certified under the PMCDP is required to successfully complete 60 CE hours on a biennial basis, to begin immediately after their most recent certification date.

Failure to Maintain CE Hours:

DOE O 361.1B states that FPDs who fail to maintain their CE hours within the two-year period following certification will be notified by the Secretariat of the CRB of this status, and will be given a 90-day notification pending revocation of their certification.  Unless there are extenuating circumstances such as illness or military service which prevent them from remedying the CE hour deficiencies within this 90-day period, the CRB may revoke the certification and will notify the person certified under the PMCDP and the PSO that the certification has been revoked.

Obtaining CE Hours:

Enrolling in PMCDP Courses is a preferred method for many FPDs looking to obtain additional CE credit hours.  Please click here for a listing of the current PMCDP Courses and their respective CE credit hour values.

Although strongly encouraged, FPDs are not required to enroll in additional PMCDP courses to accumulate the mandatory 60 CE hours required to maintain a certification.  To accommodate the busy schedules of our DOE FPDs, the CRB has developed a comprehensive list of activities that will satisfy your CE hour requirements, many of which can be accomplished through general on-the-job experience or through other professional activities.  If your total CE hours exceed the 60 CE hours required, a maximum of 20 CE hours may be carried over into the next two-year period.  To locate a list of activities that will satisfy your CE requirements, please consult the most current version of the DOE PMCDP continuing education credit assignments table that is under consideration by the Board.

The following is a collection of past CRB memorandum that relates to PMCDP CE requirements:
