Crowley is Fighting to Defend Animal Welfare:
- Received one of the Humane Society’s highest honors – the “Humane Advocate Award” for his strong record in support of animal rights.
- Supporter of the continued expansion and increased enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).
- Cosponsored the Animal Fighting Enforcement Act, which increased the penalty for animal fighting violations from one to two years in prison and was enacted into law.
- Cosponsor of a proposal to end the use of steel-jawed leg-hold traps on animals in the United States.
- Supporter of prohibiting the slaughtering of horses for human consumption.
- Cosponsor of the Downed Animal Protection and Food Safety Act to prevent meat from sick, diseased and injured livestock – so-called “downed” animals – from entering the United States food supply.
- Supporter of legislation to prohibit the practice of “bear baiting.”

Crowley Working to Preserve Endangered Species:
- Strong supporter of the Endangered Species Act to help save wild animals and plants whose population has steadily dwindled or whose habitats are threatened.
- Supporter of increased funding for the Multinational Species Conservation Fund, which helps prevent exotic animals such as rhinos, elephants and great apes from becoming extinct.
- Voted to assist conservation programs that protect rare dog and cat species outside North America and Europe, such as jaguars, leopards, cheetahs, and African wild dogs
- Supporter of increased funding for US Agency for International Development (USAID) to help conserve the environment of wild animals whose lands are continuously threatened by development and poaching.
Crowley on Protecting America’s Pets:
- Voted to ensure that state and local emergency preparedness plans consider the needs of individuals with household pets and service animals.
- Cosponsor of a proposal to ensure that dogs and cats used in research are acquired from proper sources.
- Supporter of the PAWS bill that would protect puppies and kittens bred by large commercial operations and sold over the Internet or newspaper ads.
- Cosponsor of a legislative initiative to stop the illegal practice of selling cat and dog fur and to require that all fur products be correctly labeled.
