PIH Green Initiative
“Going Green” or environmentalism is a philosophical
and social movement centered on a concern for the conservation and improvement
of our natural resources. With an ever expanding population that consumes
more and more non-renewable resources, the US Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) have combined their resources to provide opportunities
to achieve more energy efficient practices and strategies. Green Collar Jobs: The New Cash Crop
The American Solar Energy Society (ASES) leads
the nation in providing information for local and federal policymakers as well
as other energy professionals to assist them in implementing new energy policies. The
following excerpt is from their latest contribution "Renewable Energy and
Energy Efficiency: Economic Drivers for the 21st Century" Renewable
Energy and Energy Efficiency technologies (RE&EE) are driving significant economic
growth in the United States. In 2006, these industries generated 8.5 million new
jobs, nearly $970 billion in revenue, more than $100 billion in industry profits,
and more than $150 billion in increased federal, state, and local government tax
revenues. To put this in perspective, RE&EE sales outpaced the combined sales
of the three largest U.S. corporations. Total sales for Wal-Mart, Exxon-Mobil,
and General Motors in 2006 were $905 billion. RE&EE industries
could generate up to $4.5 trillion in revenue in the United States and create
40 million new jobs by the year 2030. These 40 million jobs would represent nearly
one out of every four jobs in 2030. This information summarizes the
findings in the ASES/MISI report titled Defining, Estimating, and Forecasting
the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Industries in the U.S. in an effort
to chart a possible course to a sustainable energy future for government and industry
decision makers. The complete report, which includes supporting data on
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RE&EE) developed by the American Solar
Energy Society (ASES), can be downloaded at the following link: Renewable
