Disease Surveillance
IEIP sites conduct population-based surveillance to track diseases of global public health importance and detect unusual changes in trends that may signal an outbreak.
Objectives of this activity are:
- To estimate the burden and cost of infectious diseases of global importance, including but not limited to pneumonia and diarrhea
- To obtain and integrate laboratory confirmation
Currently, IEIP sites conduct surveillance for one or more diseases or syndromes, including pneumonia, influenza, diarrhea, febrile illness, jaundice, and neurologic disease.
