EPA's Central Data Exchange (CDX) is the point of entry on the Environmental Information Exchange Network (Exchange Network) for environmental data exchanges to the Agency. CDX also provides the capability for submitters to access their data through the use of web services. CDX enables EPA and participating program offices to work with stakeholders - including state, tribal and local governments and regulated industries - to enable streamlined, electronic submission of data via the Internet.
Why are organizations using CDX?
Participating organizations agencies are using CDX for a number of reasons, such as:
- Simplified Reporting -submit data instantaneously through one centralized point of access and fill out a single electronic form instead of mailing multiple paper forms
- Support for Multiple Data Formats- submit data in a variety of formats including Webs Forms, XML, binary, or flat-file
- Receipt Confirmation- receive Agency confirmation when submissions are received
- Secure Data Exchange- utilize Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and encryption security protocols to ensure a secure data exchange environment
- Improved Identity Management- receive support for authentication, authorization, and digital signature
- Reduced costs- reduce time and resources expended to fill out and process submissions
- Web Services Technology and Tools- utilize CDX’s web services to implement machine-to-machine data exchanges, data transformations, and validations
- Automated Fee Collection- pay fees automatically through Pay.gov
- Data Publishing Services- utilize CDX's web services to share or publish data collected by EPA to various stakeholders, such as states and tribes
