Legal Status of EPT - Michigan

I. Statutes/regs on health care providers’ authority to prescribe for STDs to a patient’s partner(s) w/out prior evaluation (Explanation)

minus symbol Prescribing practitioner can only dispense prescription drugs to the practitioner’s own patients. Mich. Comp. Laws Ann. § 333.17745. Note, the above provision does not apply to providing a prescription order to a patient.

Statutory law requires that drugs be dispensed to a physician’s own patients, narrowing the class of legitimate recipients to individuals who have expressly established a physician patient relationship.
Pharmacists must ensure that all prescriptions are dispensed pursuant to a valid physician patient relationship.
