Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies: MPA-CINT is a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center (NSRC) operating as a national user facility devoted to the establishment and leadership of a scientific community dedicated to nanoscience integration challenges.

CINT is one of five NSRCs throughout the U.S. that form an integrated national program, affiliated with major facilities at the DOE’s National Laboratories, to cover the diverse aspects of nanoscience and technology. In addition to CINT’s Gateway to Los Alamos Facility, the center provides open access to tools and expertise needed to explore the continuum from scientific discovery to the integration of nanostructures into the micro and macro world through its core facility in Albuquerque and Gateway to Sandia National Laboratories Facility.

National High Magnetic Field Laboratory Pulsed Field Facility: MPA-NHMFL is a national user facility that maintains a strong research program in condensed matter physics and an international users program centered on unique pulsed magnets and experimental capabilities.

Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Pulsed Field Facility is one of three campuses of the NHMFL, the other two being at Florida State University, Tallahassee, and the University of Florida, Gainesville.

Custom-designed universal digital signal processing system for pulsed magnetic field measurements to 65T; advanced instrumentation for magnetization, transport, thermodynamic, and spectroscopy at high field and very low temperatures.

Superconductivity Technology Center: MPA-STC develops energy efficient superconductor technologies in collaboration with American industry and universities.

Key Capabilities
Physics of high temperature superconductors (HTS); pulsed laser ablation of HTS and associated oxide films; ion beam assisted deposition of aligned films; HTS tape processing; development of dielectrics and multiferroics; superconducting power applications; carbon nanotube synthesis and applications.

Condensed Matter and Thermal Physics: MPA-10 focuses on fundamental condensed matter research with thrusts in materials physics and thermal physics and materials research in support of the weapons program.

Key Capabilities
Thermoacoustics for industrial and defense applications; non-linear fluid dynamics; DELTA loop for AFCI materials compatibility testing; materials synthesis and fundamental characterization; materials at extreme conditions (H, T, P); low-energy spectroscopies (PES, neutron diffraction, magnetic resonance techniques).

Sensors & Electrochemical Devices: MPA-11 applies fundamental knowledge of materials science and electrochemistry to national security challenges, with a focus on alternative energy systems and sensors.

Key Capabilities
Materials science (ionic and electronic conducting materials); electrochemistry and electrocatalysis; materials theory, synthesis and characterization; fuel cell modeling, design, fabrication and testing; acoustic interrogation and acoustic manipulation of particles; innovative chemical and physical sensor development; proof-of-concept device development.

Materials Chemistry: MPA-MC provides molecular and materials chemistry solutions for national security interests including core weapons programs, emerging energy security issues, and threat reduction applications.

Molecular synthesis of materials; chemical reactivity, modification of materials; chemical analysis, surface science, spectroscopy; molecular structure and dynamics.
