Friends Village Apartments

Friends Village is the perfect choice for students wanting to transition to an environment with a little more freedom while not having to think about paying separate electrical, gas, water and cable bills. Friends Village features independent living within the context of our Community Life Standards so as to support what is truly important - your academics! Students must be at least sophomore status (29 earned credit hours) to live in Friends Village.

Billing
Billing for Friends Village is set once at the beginning of the fall semester, spring semester and during the summer. Pay your bill with one payment or, for a small fee, make monthly payments in the Student Account Services Office. Friends Village leases for 12- months, beginning June 1 and ending May 31 of the following year. If you move into the facility before or after June 1, rent will be prorated to the week residency began.

Amenities
This apartment complex houses approximately 90 students. Each apartment is carpeted and has blinds on all the windows. The kitchenette is equipped with a refrigerator and stove. Each apartment has its own bathroom and either a patio or deck. The University covers water, trash, electricity, gas, local phone service, network access and basic cable. A live-in Resident Manager works with Resident Assistants to develop social and educational activities and is available 24 hours-aday.

Apartment Leasing Information
One of the biggest benefits for residents of Friends Village is that all of the utilities are included in the monthly rent. The official amount of the rent will be outlined in the lease. For more information on rent please e-mail us at reslife@friends.edu.

The lease for Friends Village begins on Aug. 1 and ends on May 31 unless residents choose to renew their leases. In this case, the lease would run from June 1 to May 31.

All of the official terms of the lease will be included in an apartment contract, which each resident will be required to sign before he or she moves into the complex.

If a resident moves into an apartment before or after August 15, the student's rent will be pro-rated according to the week of residency occurred. All of the official terms of this process will also be outlined in the lease.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible to live at Friends Village?
Anyone who will be a sophomore or above during the academic school year will be eligible to apply for Friends Village. Priority will be given by seniority.

How are roommates selected?
Roommates will first be selected by each resident's preference as to whom they would like to have as a roommate.

How many roommates will I have?
The Residence Life Department will set a maximum number of roommates based on the size of the apartment. The number of roommates you will have (up to the predetermined maximum) may be decided by you and your perspective roommate(s), if any.

Will I need to pay for utilities?
One of the biggest benefits to Friends Village will be that all of the utilities are included in the rent. This even includes cable, phone and Internet access!

Will I need to buy a meal plan?
A small meal plan of $400 will be required for all apartment residents. You will also have the option to increase your meal if you would like.

How can I decorate my room?
You and your roommates may decorate in anyway you want as long, as these decorations conform to Community Life standards, do not damage any part of the apartment and adhere to the housing guidelines.

Meal Plans
Students who choose to live in Friends Village will be required to purchase a $400 meal plan each semester. You can choose to use this meal plan to purchase meals in the dining room or items from the snack bar. The amount you spend in either location will be deducted from your account by using your Student ID.
