Blood Component Pick Up

Routine Blood Component Pick Up

Blood for transfusion on nursing units or outpatient clinics must be picked up at the Blood Issue window. A MIS transmittal with patient's name, ID#, and the product requested must be presented by the messenger at the time of product issue.

DTM personnel deliver blood to the operating room refrigerators each morning prior to the first scheduled surgery. These refrigerators are monitored by DTM personnel for adherence to regulatory guidelines.

Computer Downtime Blood Component Pick Up

Blood products may be picked up during MIS downtimes by completing form NIH-734, Request for Release of Blood or Blood Products for Transfusion. This form must be presented at the Blood Issue window at the time of request.
