Boulder Local Information

Weather, Climate, and High Altitude Preparations
August weather in Boulder can be warm during the day with highs around 33-38° C, with cool evenings in the 15-20° C range. GLOBE Workshop and Boulder dress is casual. Afternoon thunderstorms are common this time of the year. Sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses are needed due to Boulder's relatively high elevation (1,650 m). Low average humidity and high elevation can lead to dehydration and headaches. Be sure to drink plenty of water during your stay.
Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) Optional Field Trip, Saturday 9 August
If you plan to participate, please bring appropriate clothing and gear — raincoat, hat, jacket, sunglasses, sunscreen, hiking/walking shoes, water bottle, and small backpack or bag for your clothing. Although characterized by clear, sunny mornings, RMNP's weather is unpredictable. Be ready for sun, heat, wind, rain, and even snow all in the same day. We plan on driving up into the alpine zone at 3600 m elevation for part of the day. At these high elevations, you may experience symptoms of altitude sickness which are shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness, weakness and loss of appetite. Drink plenty of water and take it slow. Ultraviolet rays are intense at these elevations necessitating the use of sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats.
