Internship FAQ

Why should I do an internship with Congressman Weiner ?
An internship with our office provides students with a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the American political system by working in either one of our district offices, or in our Congressional office in Washington, DC. The Anthony Weiner Congressional Internship Program is an exciting and educational experience that offers broad insight into the legislative policy-making process while allowing students the chance to apply classroom learning to real Congressional work.

What type of work will I do?
As an intern in my office, you will be treated as a member of the staff. Interns perform vital office functions by assisting the staff in assignments that include sorting and processing mail, constituent casework, responding to constituent requests and correspondence, assembling reference materials, answering the phone, receiving/greeting visitors, giving tours, providing administrative support, and participating in special projects. Much of the work you will do is actual work performed on a daily basis by other members of the staff.

Who is eligible?
Participation in the program is open to any college or university student who is a U.S. citizen. Applicants must have completed at least one year of freshman study. Those who are residents of New York State will be given priority in the selection.

When is the deadline for applying? How long does an internship last?
We accept applications on a continual basis in my office. Our office must receive an application and all other requested material no later than 60 days prior to the desired start date. Each internship generally lasts a minimum of six weeks.
