KEY INITIATIVES -
ORGANIZATIONAL DEPENDENCIES

The Clinical Center operating plan is created to support the NIH intramural program by fostering alignment of clinical research improvement efforts across the NIH. Because the Clinical Center is a major support component of the intramural program, the success of all CC key initiatives is dependent upon cooperation and collaboration from Institutes and other NIH components.

The degree of collaboration required for key initiatives varies. Some initiatives can be launched and implemented relatively independently by the CC while others are entirely dependent upon partnerships outside the CC. The following table identifies the degree of organizational dependency of each key initiative. The descriptions below provide definitions of the relative degree of dependency.

Descriptions of Relative Degree of Dependency of
Key Initiatives

Low

Clinical Center can undertake and accomplish initiative relatively independently.

Medium

Clinical Center will initiate and lead project but will require input, participation, and ìbuy-inî from Institutes and other NIH components for successful implementation.

High

Clinical Center requires joint leadership with Institutes or other NIH components to launch and implement the initiative.
