Star and Stripes adorn Old Glory.
She stands high above and waves
over patriots still living
and heroes in their graves.
She inspired our troops at Yorktown
and in countless battles fought.
The right to fly Old Glory
wasn't given; it was bought.
Our nation's independence
was gained in trench and mud.
The map that led to freedom
was drawn in soldiers' blood.
Our freedom wasn't granted
by a politician's whims.
It was won by frightened farm boys
who paid in shattered limbs.
Our sovereignty was not the product
of an orator's renown.
It was purchased with the treasure
of precious lives laid down.
We now enjoy the status
of self determination.
We don't bow before an earthly king
in this free and sovereign nation.
Our forefathers longed for freedom,
but desire would not suffice.
The things of lasting value
must be purchased at at price.
