Livestock producers faced with unwarranted animal cruelty lawsuits now have some protection. Nationwide Agribusiness Insurance Company, Des Moines, Iowa, now offers a no-cost, add-on coverage for its AgriChoice farm insurance product to help cover the costs of unwarranted animal cruelty lawsuits.
In response to issues raised in focus group meetings with farmers, Nationwide Agribusiness developed this innovative coverage endorsement.
The Unwarranted Animal Cruelty coverage applies to civil or criminal claims where the insured prevails without a finding of liability or guilt, and offers up to $20,000 to help defray the insured's defense costs. An employment practices coverage is also now available at no additional cost that similarly provides reimbursement of up to $20,000 in defense costs incurred in defending employment practices allegations. Coverage is not available in all states.
