+ Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA) Best Technical Paper Awards.
First place awarded to Wayne Bryant of NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), Paul Fiduccia (ASE, Inc.), and Steven Lang (FAA) for their article, "FAA/NASA Wake Turbulence Research Program." Third place awarded to Darin Skelly and Cristina Guidi (NASA); and Richard VanSuetendael, Ph.D, Shelia Helton-Ingram, and Steward Jackson (FAA), for their article, "Developing the Future Air and Space Transportation System through Interagency Partnerships."

+ American Helicopter Society (AHS) Howard Hughes Award.
Awarded to the Hart II Test and Analysis Team, including team members Dr. Thomas F. Brooks and Casey L. Burley (LaRC), for making an outstanding improvement in fundamental helicopter technology. Brooks and Burley also won the Howard Hughes Award in 2002.

+ American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Awards.
  • AIAA L. Sperry Award Recipient.
    Awarded to Jeffrey Jordan (LaRC) for significant contributions to a broad range of aerospace research programs through the development and application of advanced measurement techniques and innovative sensing technologies

  • AIAA Sustained Service Award.
    Awarded to Bryan Palaszewski (GRC) for extensive and energetic support of AIAA with the organization of national professional development courses, national technical committee leadership, and local section leadership.

  • AIAA Honorary Fellow.
    L.S. "Skip" Fletcher (ARC). For exceptional individuals who embody the highest standards possible in aeronautics.

  • AIAA Fellow.
    Thomas Edwards (ARC), Anthony Springer (NASA Headquarters). For AIAA members who have made notable and valuable contributions to aeronautics.

  • AIAA Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) Technical Committee Service Award.
    Awarded to Dr. Guru Guruswamy (ARC) for his efforts associated with conducting the High Fidelity MDO survey, and for presenting the survey at the AIAA Structural Dynamics Conference and publishing in the Journal of Aircraft. The survey provides a practical road map to those wishing to use high fidelity methods of MDO.

+ American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Edwin F. Church Medal.
Awarded to David Lavery (NASA Headquarters) for exceptional contributions to mechanical engineering education, technical literacy, and mentorship to youth.

+ Journal of Composite Structures.
Best Paper Award.

Awarded to Damodar R. Ambur (LaRC), Navin Jaunky (LaRC) and Mark W. Hilburger (LaRC) for the paper "Progressive Failure Studies of Stiffened Panels Subjected to Shear Loading," as appeared in Volume 65, Issue 2, August 2004, pp 129- 142. The Award is given annually to the paper voted by the Editorial Board to have made the most significant contribution to composite structures that year.

+ Women in Aerospace Outstanding Achievement Award.
Awarded to Dr. Rebecca A. MacKay (GRC) for her work in advanced high temperature materials for aircraft and rocket propulsion systems, including development through a continuing series of inventions and accomplishments of the world's most advanced and more efficient propulsion system superalloy.
