USDA Guide to Poultry Exemption -
"Guidance for Determining
Whether
a Poultry Slaughter
or Processing Operationis
Exempt from Inspection Requirements of the Poultry
Products Inspection Act" The Food Safety and Inspection Service
(FSIS) of the Department of Agriculture (USDA) created this guide to help
small businesses and poultry producers who
slaughter or process poultry for human food to determine whether
the slaughter or processing operations at their businesses are eligible
for exemption from Federal or State inspection. In other words,
this guide is helpful to producers or businesses in determining whether
their slaughter or processing operations require United States Department
of Agriculture or State inspection, as mandated in the Poultry Products
Inspection Act.
Legal Issues for Small
Scale Poultry Processors
Two PDF files- Introduction and Federal Laws (6 pages) and Laws by State (58 pages) Note: This publication reflects
information that researchers were able to collect in 2001. It may be incomplete
and laws may have changed. Before you make decisions about your operation,
please contact your state Department of Agriculture to check processing
regulations.

Poultry Budgeting
Tool
How much does it really cost
to raise your broilers? What price on your eggs
will cover costs AND bring in a little to cover the kid's time? To help
discover the answer to these and other questions, the Center for Integrated
Agricultural Systems at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has developed
a budget for new and existing poultry enterprises. An Excel Spreadsheet
that allows you to enter your own numbers will show changes to the bottom
line as inputs change. For more information and to download the spreadsheet
and detailed instructions, go to the
CIAS website.
