Marcelo Serrano
Head Soccer Coach

Marcelo Serrano

A native of Brazil, Coach Marcelo Serrano enters his fifth year as head soccer coach. His MCC overall record is 61-9-7.

In Brazil, Coach Serrano was the head soccer coach at the University of Belo Horizonte and the head coach for a U-17 boy’s elite team called Villa Nova Futebol Club. He is currently an Olympic Development (ODP) coach and instructor for the Iowa Soccer Association. He currently holds a B National license from United States Soccer Federation.

Coach Serrano attended the University of Belo Horizonte before coming to Iowa. He is a graduate of Marshalltown Community College and Upper Iowa University.

 

 

Rafael Martinez
Assistant Coach

Rafael Martinez

 

Coach Rafael Martinez brings both coaching and playing experience to his second year at MCC. A native of Spain and lifelong soccer player, he played soccer at the semi-professional level before moving to the U.S. to play at Iowa Wesleyan College. He earned All Conference honors and was named newcomer player of the year. He was assistant coach at Columbus Junction High School and helped the team qualify for the pre-state final for the first time in the program’s history. He moved to Marshalltown to take a teaching job at Marshalltown High School where he helped coach the girls’ soccer team to its first trip to the state championship. Coach Martinez also holds a D National license from the United States Soccer Federation.

 

 

Guillermo Hernandez
Assistant Coach

Guillermo Hernandez

Coach Guillermo Hernandez is in his second year as women’s soccer coach. After playing soccer in his homeland Mexico and attending the Professional Technical School in Mexico, he came to the U.S. in 1991. As well as playing soccer, he was also a referee and league organizer. He is a “D” licensed coach and also a certified referee. Coach Hernandez was awarded the Iowa Soccer Association 2007 volunteer of the year for his contributions and hard work with soccer in Marshalltown.

 

 

Samuel Ibarra
Assistant Coach

Samuel Ibarra

Coach Samuel Ibarra has played soccer ever since he was a child in Mexico. When he came to Marshalltown, 10 years ago, he played at Marshalltown High School. He also played at MCC for two years as a goalkeeper. He is a “D” licensed coach and has a goalkeeping diploma from the NSCA. He plans to continue to coach soccer and pursue a career in engineering.
