NEWSS Supports Herbicide Resistance Stewardship

The membership of the NEWSS passed an Herbicide Resistance Stewardship Resolution at their January 2006 annual meeting in Providence RI. Herbicide stewardship and herbicide resistance management are critical in minimizing the risk of selecting herbicide-resistant weed biotypes with their increased management and/or production costs. The Northeastern Weed Science Society supports efforts to increase implementation of herbicide resistance stewardship. The complete stewardship statement can be viewed at this website.

2006 ANNUAL MEETING OVERVIEW

The 60th annual meeting of the NEWSS was a successful meeting. We had a joint symposium with the New England Aquatic Plant Management Society, an Education and Outreach symposium and an Ornamental symposium. Approximately 190 people attended from NEWSS, with another 140 people from the aquatic society. Approximately 90 papers and posters were presented. Copies of the proceedings are available for $25 through Chris Becker, Secretary-Treasurer. CDs are available for an additional $5.

Congratulations to our student presentation and poster winners.

Powerpoint presentations from the Ornamental Symposium are now available as PDF files.
