Comprehensive support for technology transfer of research results |
To strengthen the international competitiveness of industry and to lead to the economic revitalization of Japan, on the basis of "The 3rd Science and Technology Basic Plan" "Intellectual Property Policy Outline" "Intellectual Property Strategic Program", JST supports comprehensively the technology transfer activities of universities,TLO, companies, etc. by assisting in the acquisition of patents and development of human resource for promotion of industry-academia-government collaborations.

JST helps the universities and TLOs to acquire the patent from the result of the research.

Human Support to university intellectual property headquarters and TLO |
JST supports the consultation to acquire the patent and the search of the university for an already-known technology, etc. The Patent Professional Researchers in the local Support Office for Acquiring Patents does this support. JST has seven offices in the whole country. |

Patent application support system |
JST supports the cost and gives an expert opinion when the university and TLO try to acquire the patent in the foreign country.
The Patent Professional Researcher who belongs to the Tokyo headquarters takes charge of this help. |

For appropriate utilization of intellectual property rights |
When an intellectual property right owned by universities or TLO is infringed, JST is prepared to support universities or TLO in accordance with their request in enforcing the right appropriately against infringing bodies. JST has begun the support on a trial basis since April 2006.

Development of human resources for promotion of industry-academia-government collaborations |
JST provides training programs for those in charge of technology transfers at universities and TLO, for the purpose of fostering and securing people who are able to promote industry-academia-government collaborations.

A consultation service is provided to support technology transfers. |
Universities, national and public research institutes, industries, TLOs, companies, etc. can make use of the consultation service concerning technology transfers and receive support for the quick and efficient realization of practical applications for research results. This can be achieved through the various technology transfer systems that JST and related ministries and agencies have implemented and through JST's technical staff support for solving specific technical issues.

Support in Matching Research Results with Industry |
University exhibitions featuring the "knowledge" developed by universities are held on a national scale to encourage the practical application of research results obtained by universities. At these events, efforts are made to match the "seeds" of superior technologies with industrial needs.
