Research Program on Development of Innovative Technology
Promotion of Creative Technology Development with Great Innovation which Shapes the Future of Next Generation Industry and Builds Up a New Development Base in the 21st Century
* Objective
The program has the objective of promoting the creation of new industries by rearing creative technological seeds with great innovation in the private sector into more innovative and practical technology.

* Summary
  • Applications for creative technology development tasks with great innovation are invited from private enterprises. Such tasks should be particularly important for solving nationally confronted tasks including social needs such as the building of a safe, secure and affluent society in addition to economic vitalization.
  • The rearing of more innovative and practical technology is intended by commissioning private enterprises with technology development and obtaining cooperation from universities, national and public research laboratories, etc.
  • JST will bear technology development costs (ten million yen to forty million yen per annum) and the technological developments will be performed within three years.
* Requirements for Applications
  • Qualification of an applicant
    An applicant should be a private enterprise that is competent in the technological development on its own.
  • Research and Development Promotion System
    It is essential to cooperate with a researcher belonging to a university, national laboratory, independent administrative institution, etc.
  • Technological fields
    This program covers any technological fields such as "info-communications", "life science", "environment and energy", "materials and manufacturing technology", and "other innovative technologies" including technologies on safety, security and culture.
* Operation System for Programs
JST will conclude a commissioning agreement with a successful private enterprise to promote technological developments.
A program officer (PO) will be appointed within JST for necessary coordination and support.
In principle, Article 30 of Law on Special Measures for Industrial Revitalization (so-called Japanese version of the Bayth-Dole Act) will be applied in handling Intellectual property rights.
