The Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service invests in occupational safety and health and workforce development applied research and outreach efforts. These result in greater vocational skills, sensitize workers to workplace hazards, teach them ways to avoid these hazards, help those with disabilities remain employed, and help ensure equal access to the agriculture profession for all workers, regardless of background or ability.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) maintains an extensive collection of information on agricultural injuries and health. Issues on the NIOSH Web site include information on risks for fatal and nonfatal injuries, work-related lung diseases, noise-induced hearing loss, skin diseases, and certain cancers associated with chemical use and prolonged sun exposure.
In addition, The Worker Health Chartbook, 2004, is a descriptive epidemiologic reference on occupational morbidity and mortality in the United States. The agriculture, forestry, and fishing industries are the focus of Chapter 3 in the Chartbook.

The National Center for Farmworker Health (NCFH) was established in 1974 and is dedicated to improving the health status of farmworker families by providing information services and products to a network of more than 500 migrant health center service sites in the United States as well as other organizations and individuals serving the farmworker population.
