It has been estimated that approximately 50,000 species of plants and animals have been introduced into the U.S., and that they cause environmental damage and losses adding up to more than $100 billion/yr. The goal of the program is to support inter-disciplinary experimental, observational, theoretical, and modeling studies of invasive species that lead to ecological and economic models in cost/benefit analyses of different management, control and elimination strategies. Estimated total program funding is $3.6 million.
The closing due date is Feb 14, 2007.

FY 2007 Request for Applications for the Integrated Research, Education, And Extension Competitive Grants Program: Integrated Pest Management Risk Avoidance and Mitigation Program and Integrated Pest Management Crops at Risk Program / Grants.gov - USDA-CSREES-ICGP-000326
USDA. Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service.
CSREES announces the availability of grant funds and requests applications for the Integrated Research, Education, and Extension Competitive Grants Program Integrated Pest Management – (IPM Section 406 Program) for fiscal year (FY) 2007 to support integrated, multifunctional/multidisciplinary agricultural research, extension, and education activities that address complex pest management priorities in United States agriculture. This IPM Section 406 Program RFA currently has two program areas: Crops at Risk (CAR) and Risk Avoidance and Mitigation (RAMP). The amount available for support of this program in FY 2007 is approximately $5,494,000.
The closing due date is Feb 12, 2007.

Special Research Grants Program: Citrus tristeza Research (CTV) Program / Grants.gov - USDA-CSREES-SRGP-000325
USDA. Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service.
The purpose of this program is to support cutting edge research that mitigates or eliminates problems caused by the Citrus tristeza virus and/or the Brown Citrus Aphid. Research using the latest technologies in new ways is encouraged. Priority will be given to applications that propose collaboration between citrus production areas, and to proposed projects that are judged most likely to result in positive short-term impacts on citrus production. Estimated total program funding is $645,000.

The University of California (UC) Pierce's Disease (PD) Grants Program and the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Pierce's Disease/Glassy Winged Sharpshooter Board are accepting proposals for research projects aimed at seeking solutions to the problem of Pierce's disease, a devastating disease that threatens California's grape industry.
Proposals are due Jan 16, 2007. Research contracts will be awarded for one to two years, beginning with the 2007-08 fiscal year. Award notifications will be sent out May 1, 2007, and funding is expected to be available Jul 1, 2007.

Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) (solicitation for FY 2008 was released Nov 9, 2006)
Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program.
The Department of Defense (DoD), through the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP), will be funding environmental research and development in its core thrust area of Sustainable Infrastructure. The objective of this effort it to identify, develop, and transition environmental technologies that relate directly to defense mission accomplishment through tools and techniques that will permit the DoD to manage lands in a sustainable manner for natural resources (e.g. ecosystem management, land management, maritime sustainability), cultural resources, and the built infrastructure (e.g. air/water quality, solid waste, noise). This also encompasses the technologies required to sustain deployed forces. Invasive Species has the potential to reach parties interested in this funding opportunity.
For the Core solicitation, pre-proposals from the non-federal sector are due Jan 4, 2007, and federal proposals are due Mar 8, 2007. All SEED proposals are due Mar 8, 2007.
